Ryan House, a respite home for seriously ill children, has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony April 23 at the northwest corner of Merrell Street and First Avenue in Phoenix.

Holly and Jonathan Cottor founded the nonprofit organization after their youngest son, Ryan, was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy and the family stayed in a respite home in London while he was being treated. The Phoenix facility, scheduled to open in mid-2009, will provide a homelike setting where children with life-limiting conditions and their families can go for respite and end-of-life care at no charge.

Hospice of the Valley, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, The Board of Visitors, Junior League of Phoenix, St. Luke's Health Initiatives, Kitchell Contractors and Orcutt/Winslow Partnership are partnering with Ryan House to build the facility.
