Care at Ryan House

Program Descriptions

From diagnosis through end-of-life and beyond, Ryan House provides a comprehensive program of family-centered care including medical, emotional, social and spiritual support services and therapies to enhance quality-of-life. With a caring and professional, dedicated staff providing hands-on care, families will be able to focus on enjoying life and one another.

Pediatric Palliative Care

Palliative care for children means more than ‘end-of-life’ care.  Pediatric palliative care begins when a child receives a diagnosis, and continues throughout the child’s life, regardless of any treatment received.  Beginning early before the family reaches a crisis issue, this type of care aims to address the child’s comfort and quality of life, and also support the child’s family with medical communication, decision making, access to resources, and emotional needs. Goals for pediatric palliative care are parallel with a family’s goals of seeking treatments or cures.

Respite Care

Ryan House provides planned and unscheduled respite care designed to give families a much needed break from the round-the-clock needs of their children. The child will have a comfortable away-from-home experience, which is one way of normalizing the life of the child and family. Up to 28 days a year of respite care per child will be available to Ryan House families – at no out-of-pocket costs to them.

End-of-Life Care

Ryan House will provide families with supportive assistance in anticipation of imminent death. The family’s wishes will be paramount, and this end-of-life support will be consistent with clinical, cultural, and ethical standards. Ryan House will provide families with resources for bereavement support in addition to assistance with advanced care planning, care coordination, and referrals for funeral planning. There will be no limit to the length of a stay at end-of-life.

Bereavement Care

We know that sharing in life’s journey may mean preparing for that journey’s end. Because of this, we offer both end-of-life and bereavement support for as long as it’s needed, helping families value the time they have shared and assisting their transition to the future.
