The Heart of Ryan House

The mission of Ryan House is to provide respite and palliative care to children with life-threatening conditions and, as needed, end-of-life care.

Ryan House provides a welcoming, comfortable environment where some of Arizona’s most special children can truly be themselves. Parents get a much-needed short break, while the kids receive care from an experienced professional nursing staff. It all adds up to a well-deserved and essential opportunity to focus on being families and living life to its fullest. Designed from the ground up to deliver multiple adaptive modes of care on-site, Ryan House is Arizona’s premier setting for realizing both the philosophy and the practice of pediatric palliative care. Services are provided at no cost to the families.

Our Focus

At Ryan House we focus on providing respite, palliative and end of life care to children with life-threatening conditions.

Pediatric Respite Care

Respite care is a gift of time.  Short-term overnight care that helps a family take a break from the daily routine and stress of home care. It is the solution for renewed energies and new perspectives. Regular “time off” for caregivers is essential to help prevent burnout and family disintegration. Respite care becomes a necessity, not a luxury. At Ryan House, respite care is scheduled for 24-hour periods.

Pediatric Palliative Care

Pediatric palliative care is both a philosophy and a practicum of care that aims to holistically identify and address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional elements of care for both the child and the family. Its primary goals are to enhance quality of life, minimize suffering, optimize functions and provide opportunities for personal growth.

Life-enhancing Therapies

Certified child life specialists help children with activities that help alleviate the isolation, pain and fear children suffer when trying to cope with their diagnosis, as well as improve overall quality-of-life by providing an opportunity to experience new sensations, develop skills and gain confidence. Activities include: art, music, pet, sensory and hydro therapies.

Pediatric End-of Life Care

Families with a child facing end-of-life receive supportive planning and care consistent with clinical, cultural, and ethical standards. End-of-life care is provided in partnership with our Care Partner, Hospice of the Valley.
