Run For Ryan House at DC Ranch

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 6, 2009) – Runners will have the opportunity to cap their seasons at the Run for Ryan House at DC Ranch on Saturday, March 6, at 7 a.m. The Run will launch from Market Street at DC Ranch and the course will wind through the community that lies at the base of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in north Scottsdale. Organizers have added a half marathon component to the event in exchange for the 10K. A 5K run-walk is offered, along with a free 1-mile family fun run-walk. Walkers are encouraged to participate in the half marathon, for which a four-hour time limit is set.

Every stride will benefit Ryan House, the first of its kind in the Southwest that will provide respite and palliative care for children with life-threatening conditions in a home-like setting. Ryan House is expected to open in the spring of 2010; the Run for Ryan House at DC Ranch is slated to be the capstone opportunity for fundraising prior to the facility’s grand opening.

DC Ranch’s annual Run, which has a history of six years, was officially renamed in honor of its permanent commitment to Ryan House in 2009. ” Our community is one-of-a-kind, and so is Ryan House,” said DC Ranch Community Council Executive Director Suzanne Walden-Wells.” The Run is an opportunity for DC Ranch to intensify its connection to the greater community,” she continued.

The Run for Ryan House at DC Ranch is hosted by the DC Ranch Community Foundation. “DC Ranch’s core values include a healthy lifestyle and a philanthropic spirit,” said Walden-Wells.  ”The Run for Ryan House is a great way for our community to live both at one time. We are thrilled to play host to the Valley’s runners, walkers and families, too. DC Ranch includes the ideal terrain for such an athletic event,” continued Walden-Wells.

Last year, the Run for Ryan House registered 847 runners. This year, organizers expect 1,000 participants.
